Radio Quarry Hunslet
Переглядів 5717 років тому
An Accucraft 7/8s Quarry Hunslet was having problems with moving itself let alone a load. It was collected and given the once over. After resetting the eccentrics, replacing the split O ring in the safety valve and a few other jobs it was given our usual 'load 10 water' to pull today. The regulator is less than half open and pressure was just nudging 30 psi. The results aren't too bad....
Doris the Merlin Monarch
Переглядів 5727 років тому
An elderly Merlin Monarch was subject to a variety of jobs in our workshop such as new owner supplied cylinders, pistons, end caps, valves and valve chests. We supplied reverser servo, switch, battery pack, banjo bolts and a few new fibre washers. It is shown here undergoing testing on the Wigfa & Llanrwst Railway prior to being sent back to its owner in Devon. The film is a little shaky due to...

A Wrightscale Wren came into the workshop for the second time after receiving some serious damage in a fall from height. The cab and rear bufferbeam were detached from the rest of the loco so AbbeyBach Engineering Services Ltd effected repairs and a part repaint. The results look and work very well.
JC NGG16

A John Campbell NGG16 has been in my workshop for a variety of repairs, including new 2.4Ghz r/c, a rewire, new metal geared servos, refurbishment of cylinders, rewiring of working head and tail lights and fitting of a radio operated Polly Model Engineering 3 barrel chime whistle. This is a video of its test run during the latter part of the works.

Mortimer
Переглядів 5579 років тому
An Accucraft Mortimer came into my workshop for a few reported ailments. After a new safety valve O ring it was trialled on a bench test and then on our line. The only faults found were a slow operating regulator servo damaged by oil ingress and the O ring above. The loco was stripped of its radio gear after this video was taken to remove the detritus and accumulated oil all over it. It now wor...

    Was it raining? The wagons look to be full of water. Does the winch work?

    Always good to see a Millie running, and especially one with such a great history. It’s a shame that these locos are no longer being made but, with reasonable care, the current ones will be around for years to come.

    The design of the route and location of the track is very well done. Since it is a pleasure to drive with real steam. The locomotive seems to love it ...

      +mattyrallye Yep, it does sound like it, but given it was the Engineering Sample which comes with warts and all I think it performed reasonably well. The production series will have these sort of snags ironed out before release.

    I'm waiting for my black no84, to go with my black Pearse No85 I've had for 14 years.... Got to get the brass etches done for the coal boxes yet, so it looks the part in SLR trim. Obviously I'll have to do a few bits of titivating to get it to look right for its SLR days, but it all adds to the fun.

    • @TheBeastandahalf
      @TheBeastandahalf 9 років тому

      William Bickers-Jones It's a rather nice model William, as was the Pearse one before it. I made some coal boxes for a customers ancient Merlin version a few years ago and it transformed it from a plain old beast to something a little bit special. Regards, Dave

    Hi David, Is this Pearse's of 20 yrs ago or current Accucraft version? If of the former, what problems did you have with the whistle-steam regulator switch? For my Pearse L&M 2-6-4, it's R/.C and though I can works the valve gears and get whistle working, it seems the steam doesn't go into the cylinders. Pressure builds up fine. Only a little of condensate + oil comes out of the chimney when I push it back n' forth manually, indicating hardly any steam routing to the cylinders. Dorian

    • @TheBeastandahalf
      @TheBeastandahalf 9 років тому

      Schuten Dohkji . It is one of the later Pearse Countesses which had a few issues with both the regulator valve and the sleeved connections between the cylinders. It now works fine as far as I know. It is possible that the superheater pipe to the cylinders may be clogged with steam oil/carbonised steam oil as the bore of the pipe is only approximately 1.5mm. I would disconnect and check by blowing it through on a compressor.

    • @schutendohkji548
      @schutendohkji548 8 років тому

      +David Mees Thanks for answering. I've got the loco working now. It was just a matter of coordinating the throttle and the direction joy sticks on the R/C transmitter. The L&M loco has Pearse's On/Off mechanical pipe switch which when pushed in one direction, it shuts off the steam completely. When that happens, the switch routes the steam to the whistle. If the stick is pushed to the other direction while the loco direction stick is engaged to forward/backward (not at the center position), the steam is routed into the cylinder. Phew! I think Pearse made 3 versions of the Countess. One was the same steam steam to throttle/whistle arrangement which he had manufactured in UK and the other contracted out to China. Then I think he opened up his shop as Accucraft UK and imported the new Countess from China under Accucraft name. I think the quality of the details at least had much improved since the 1st version.

      @schutendohkji548 8 років тому

      +Schuten Dohkji My new question is about your late Countess/Earl: Are the valves Piston or slide valves? If it's the former, did it come with the valve adjustment instruction? My Pearse L&M is of the piston type but didn't have this instruction.
